Masons Island

Mason’s Island is a gated residential community prominently located at the mouth of the Mystic River. Named after Major John Mason, who was recognized for his leadership of the England troops and neighbouring tribal nations, by being granted the island in 1651, the island is part of ‘eastern’ Mystic, in the town of Stonington.

Connected to the mainland by a causeway, fishing is permitted from the causeway that connects Mason’s Island to Mystic. Two busy marinas on the island – Mason’s Island Marina and the Mystic River Marina – have slips to accommodate up to 270 boats, from 10’ to 150’ feet in length! The island is also home to the popular Mason’s Island Yacht Club, which hosts sailing programs, family activities, social events and major regattas for its membership.

Mason’s Island encompasses approximately 300 miles, part of which is home to a 47 acre nature preserve that was developed in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy, with trails the meander through woods and along salt marshes. Additionally, there are 9 acres of open space throughout the island.

Some of the island is owned by the Mason's Island Company and is regulated by property deeds. From Mason’s Island, crossing another causeway will bring visitors to Enders Island, a beautiful retreat owned and operated by the Society of Saint Edmund.

Buyers can find entry level properties in the $200,000 - $300,000 price range… as well as lovely estates worth well over $2,000,000.
