The exterior of the house is insulated instead so that you are able to preserve the beautiful barn like interior character while providing insulation and keeping the longevity of the roofing shingles and siding paint. The rainscreen method also cools the building in summer and improves performance of insulation in the winter. While the interior of the Carriage house looks uninsulated the difference between the carriage house rainscreen insulation verses a conventional insulated house is similar to the difference between a Ford and a Ferrari; They are both just cars, but still, one performs better than the other. And there's cost difference too.. Carriage house rented for $1,200 per month and Main farm house (prior to it being renovated) rented $1,600 per month, both with year round tenants.
